After losing an incredible Appaloosa mare in 1995, I was longing for the next perfect horse. So I eventually started looking locally at Paint Horse babies. I was told by one of the breeders to look on the internet and see all of the babies there. She even gave some print outs of some fillies to get me started. So off I went to my computer and the website she recommended. Well there she was! "R.C. Trixie's Twister" in Helena, Montana. I promptly called the breeder and talked for hours, soon to realize the breeding practice and imprinting that they had already done. I knew I was on the right track. I told them to put a sold sign on her and I wired the money that day. I had her shipped down after my wedding and we had a little happy hour party in her honor. All of my friends came to welcome her. She was 6 months old. I have loved and enjoyed her every day since. Her kindness and gentleness leaves me speechless. She has turned out to be my parade horse that I ride all over San Diego and is now 9 years old.
I knew Montana loved children immediately, but one episode always comes to mind. My renter has a 3 year old son who is curious and loves the horses. He is always trying to get in the corrals to get closer. Well imagine my shock when one day I look in the barn to see Ethan standing under Montana’s belly playing and talking to her. She was looking at him and not moving a muscle, careful not to hurt him or step on him. As I hurried to the barn, she just raised her head with a soft look that told me that she would not move. I got closer and called Ethan’s name only to have him step out from under her belly… not knowing what was going on. Montana gently stepped away and let me retrieve him. She gave out a long sigh as if to say: “that was fun and I love kids, mom!” |
